Stan Walker -
Australian Idol 2009 Winner!

One of the coolest Australian Idol Finalists ever was chosen by the Australia public as the new Australia Idol winner for 2009. Narrowly beating the extremely popular fellow final two finalist Hayley Warner, Stan was named as the publics' choice at a glittering gala ceremony on the steps of the Sydney Opera House on Sunday 22 November. Stan's new single "Black Box" is now available but has received lukewarm reviews. "It simply isn't the right song for Stan's soulful voice. It is very bland.", complains an industry insider.

Soulful singer Stan Walker has always had a spot on Idol in his sights. “I remember watching Guy Sebastian perform on Idol and I just knew that I wanted to do that one day. So when the opportunity came - I went in and I was just being me and now I’m living it!" Stan says of his eventual Idol audition earlier this year. I had the song prepared and everything figured out. And I did it exactly how I wanted to do it, exactly,”  “”

Sharing his growing up between Australia and New Zealand, Stan has lived through some troubled times and credits music and God for guiding him along and pointing him in the right direction. “I’m still loud and kooky but I’m not how I was like when I was little,” says Stan. “I was a little snot! I was always the naughtiest at every school; every school I’ve been to, I’ve been suspended. But now I’m a good boy!”

“You learn from every mistake, you learn from every battle and from every little circumstance that happens,” says Stan of the difficulties he faced growing up. “Some people don’t grow, some people do and I’m one who grew from it.”

Stan Walker lives in Coolangatta, Queensland with his family. Before his Idol journey, He worked as a shop assistant. Stan says he has always been musical but before Idol, has mostly only sung in church. “It allows you be calm and feel happy again,” explains Stan of his strong connection to music.

Stan has built a loyal and very passionate following. He has a smooth, casual and sexy style on stage complemented by an amazing voice. He has already treated the audience to a number of memorable performances but the absolute standout so far was his version of Prince's "Purple Rain". This earned him not only a roaring standing ovation but also a "Rexona Moment" win.  As for his potentially bright future, Stan says, “I want to live by actions and not by words. I want to be an example for those who have been and who are in the same position that I’ve been in, back in the past, so I want to lead by example. I would like to be an ambassador for broken people who come back from the dark into the light.”

Coming from a large family, Stan’s also keen to eventually produce one of his own, joking that one of his musical idols will be the lady to help him do so. “Marry Beyonce and have children,” laughs Stan of his future plans. “I want to get married; I want to have seven kids because I come from a big family. I really wanted ten, but seven is probably a little more realistic."

Stan now scores the ultimate prize - a record deal and management contract with Sony Music and all that comes with it. Exactly what the future will bring is anyone's guess but it would pretty safe to predict a stellar music career with sold out tours and millions of CD and DVD sales both in Australia and overseas.
